Defender OCTA Black: Rugged luxury

A real rock star

The Defender OCTA, the master of extreme performance on and off-road, now has an even bolder counterpart : The Defender OCTA Black.

With an all-black aesthetic for high performance, the hero of the 4x4s gives the most powerful and luxurious model in the Defender family an even stronger presence and more assertive luxury.

A sign of this transformation: no fewer than 30 exterior elements feature black finishes. The colour of the Defender OCTA Black is Narvik Black, the most intense black in the Defender palette. It is a deep, dark black with a standard gloss finish, but customers can customise the exterior of their OCTA Black by choosing a matt black protective film.

The lower front shield and rear sill plates are finished in Satin Black, as are the rear towing rings, while the front towing eye cover and Gloss Black quad exhaust tips provide a contrasting finish.

The Land Rover oval on the grille is black with dark silver lettering. Even the underbody components feature a Gloss Black or Satin Black finish, including the exhaust silencer guard, centre differential and optional electric deployable tow bar.

There is a choice between 20-inch forged wheels or 22-inch Gloss Black wheels, with black wheel covers and Defender lettering in Shadow Atlas, while the Gloss Black brake calipers feature contrasting Sentient Silver lettering.

To match the dramatic black exterior, the interior of the Defender OCTA Black takes rugged luxury to a new level. Semi-Aniline ebony leather and KvadratTM are introduced to the Defender for the first time, giving the Performance seats a soft-touch finish. They feature unique perforation patterns with new stitching on the seatbacks, while the rear seats and armrest hinges are finished in Carpathian Grey, adding a bold touch to every element.

On the dashboard, the dashboard crossbar finish is finished with a coat of Satin Black powder, with an option of fragmented carbon fibre for certain interior details, adding the ultimate touch of rugged luxury.

Every summer, Saint-Tropez’s international reputation attracts a prestigious clientele, but also the attention of organized networks targeting high-end locations, city centers, luxury villas and hotels. The Sezz***** reacts with immediate action.  

Immediate reaction and actions

Significant security measures have been put in place to guarantee the peace and quiet of guests in addition to the current system (strengthened access control to the hotel, increased presence of security personnel, verification and updating of surveillance systems).  

The hotel is also working in close coordination with the authorities.

Guests have been fully informed of these measures, which aim to strengthen protection while maintaining a climate of trust and serenity. Finally, starting next season,  access to the establishment will be strictly reserved for guests with a reservation, with each visitor requiring validation by Sezz staff at the entrance.

A consultation between hotel managers in the region is also planned in order to share best prevention and protection practices for the entire profession.

“After weeks of accumulated tension and several sports sessions in the resort’s gym overlooking the sea, I had the pleasure of discovering the SPA ELENA Ailafushi.

As soon as I walked through the spa doors, a serene sound greeted me through the waterfalls on the walkway leading to reception. The hustle and bustle of the outside world faded away, offering the promise of a tranquil experience.

I was invited to sit down and fill out a digital questionnaire about the exact experience I was looking for from my Balinese massage. This allowed me to understand the comfort in which I would be served and be serene during the session.

This spirit of serenity was the theme of the entire experience because at the end, my body, but especially my mind, learned to let go. Three essential oils were presented to me for the massage: lavender, coconut oil, or lemongrass. I selected lavender, highlighted as an oil that relieves stress, and it was a choice I did not regret, there was a soothing olfactory effect. Coconut oil, produced locally at the SPA, was used for the head massage at the end of the session, and it was pleasant because of the softness of the oil on contact.

The visual ambiance of the private massage room is elegant and refined. The sound environment contributed significantly to this serene experience. Beyond the classical music playing, as well as the tolling of the tingsha bell, I could hear the rocking of the sea as I gradually became accustomed to the treatment process. Each technique of using pressure points on the muscular nerves made me relax and drew me into a state of thoughtless consciousness: a place of tranquility with the murmur of the waves, very close to the SPA premises. The sound environment of the sea was the vault for the calming of my mind.

The female staff in charge of my Balinese massage knew how to provide a relaxing experience by adopting a spirit of service with a smile and the gentleness of a maternal voice. The reflexology technique is effective, the muscular tension in my limbs disappeared in front of the sound of the waves and the scent of lavender. I still felt the effects of the massage 2 days later.

At the end of the ritual, I was awakened from my torpor by the ringing of the Tingsha bell, marking the conclusion of the massage. The service concluded with a rather appreciable moment of contemplation in the waiting area outside the reception, seated with the comfort of a hot ginger tea surrounded by the sound of the waterfalls in the initial walkway of the SPA.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE: Complimentary speedboat airport transfer upon arrival and departure. Sangeli Island is just a 50-minute speedboat ride from Male International Airport. On the day of arrival, guests are met by our representatives at the airport and escorted to the speedboat pier for their journey to the exotic Sangeli Island. Chilled water and refreshing face towels are served on the speedboat, and a boat host is on hand to ensure a smooth journey.

We are welcomed by Jabbar, a member of the Dentakay Marketing & Communication team , and transported in a high-end car with VIP service where the goal is to make us feel as good as possible, like  Dentakay patients . For 3 days we will be accommodated in high-end hotels between Istanbul and Antalya, 2 of the different locations where the luxurious Dentakay
clinics are located.

A journey that will combine visits to three clinics with the tourist discoveries of a modern and traditional country – 
Turkey , Istanbul , between Europe and Asia, between the past and the future, separated by the Bosphorus Strait … An invitation to dream. Then a stopover in Antalya, a famous seaside city for its tourism and its ancient arenas.

We had the pleasure of talking with the founders of Dentakay – Being a couple in entrepreneurship is a strength, Onur and Gülay Akay each have their specificities but are totally complementary, in the expansion of the company, the precise recruitment with profiles of gifted, expert dental surgeon doctors, with more than 5 years of experience and a great artistic sense. I voluntarily call them “ Dent-Artist ”. We followed the dental check-up like the other patients with 3D radio scan, smile photographs, examinations with 4 doctors including Dr. Gülay Akay , among the 60 dental specialists.

We observed extremely detailed and precise analyses of our two cases, with advice, solutions, care, etc. And a constant concern for anticipation to block future oral and dental problems; initially orthodontics, bruxism, then aesthetics.

The new Defender OCTA boasts a commanding stance and bold new design, while its signature new emblems pay tribute to its diamond-level capabilities.

Introducing a new hero for Defender, the British brand with the original spirit of adventure : the new Defender OCTA. The toughest, most capable and most luxurious member of the  unstoppable 4×4 family, taking the Defender 110’s capability to a whole new level.

Powered by a 4.4-litre Twin Turbo mild-hybrid V8 engine, the OCTA model is the most extreme and powerful Defender yet, delivering 467 kW/635 hp and up to 750 Nm1 of torque and accelerating from 62,14 mph in 4.0 seconds . Completely redesigned chassis components featuring innovative technologies, including 6D Dynamics suspension, ensure its dynamic capabilities are taken to new heights.

The exterior is bolder and more robust than ever, with a distinctive character. The ride height is raised, its stance wider, and the wheel arches are enlarged, for an incredible presence. Redesigned bumpers improve approach and departure angles, while robust underbody protection gives drivers the confidence to explore more rugged terrain. And it will be able to tread deeper ground than any production Defender before it, down to one meter of water.

The name of the new Defender OCTA is taken from the world’s strongest and most attractive mineral – a diamond – and the octahedron shape that gives it its distinctive look and durability. This shape also inspired the distinctive new emblem, which marks it as the flagship Defender model, at once strong and durable, yet striking, rare and desirable.

Each Defender OCTA features a new diamond-in-circle motif, finished in Gloss Black stamped onto a machined and sandblasted titanium disc, affixed to each signature graphic panel.

The rugged luxury of the Defender OCTA is epitomised by the Defender OCTA Edition One, available from the first year of production. It features a carefully crafted specification, finished in a new exclusive Faroe Green shade, seamless knitted seat covers in PU UltrafabricsTM Khaki and Ebony, new Chopped Carbon Fibre details and 20-inch forged alloy wheels with a choice of optional specially designed All-Terrain or Advanced All-Terrain tyres.

UNMATCHED PERFORMANCE

The new OCTA model delivers unprecedented performance for the Defender. Powered by a 467 kW/635 hp 4.4-litre Twin Turbo mild-hybrid V8 engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with a dual-speed transfer case (high/low range), it is the most powerful and extreme Defender ever.

The new Defender OCTA will reach up to 155 MPH(limited) when fitted with 22-inch forged alloy wheels and all-season tyres.

With 750 Nm of torque 1 (up to 800 Nm by selecting Dynamic Launch mode) and tuned to match the vehicle’s exceptional off-road performance, the new Defender OCTA is capable of accelerating from 0 to 62,14 mph in 4.0 seconds, while maximum torque is available from 1,800 to almost 6,000 rpm, ensuring exceptional traction.

INCREDIBLE CAPABILITIES AND DURABILITY

The dynamic capabilities of the new Defender OCTA go far beyond what any Defender has achieved before, with the introduction of hydraulically interconnected 6D Dynamics suspension technology for the first time on a Defender, along with significant hardware and geometry changes. Unique in its kind, it is designed to be as enjoyable to drive on-road as it is off-road, without any compromise.

The Defender OCTA is raised 28mm and features a 68mm wider stance, for superior ground clearance and stability. To ensure unrivalled confidence and control on all terrains, with both maximum wheel articulation off-road and reduced body roll on-road, revised suspension components include longer, stronger wishbones and unique active dampers with separate accumulators. The model also features optimized 400mm front brake discs with Brembo calipers and features the quickest steering ratio of any Defender to date, for immediate and precise responses.

A bespoke testing and development programme comprising over 13,960 additional tests , including high-speed off-road reliability and endurance, as well as high-speed on-road performance, had to be created for the Defender OCTA, as the team entered areas of capability and robustness that had never been explored before.

Jamal Hameedi, Director of SVO, JLR, said: “Our high-performance experts have achieved the impossible with Defender OCTA, working tirelessly over the last three years to create the most capable Defender ever produced, regardless of the surface it is operated on. They have completely redesigned the vehicle’s components to ensure Defender OCTA is the perfect companion for epic adventures in every corner of the globe.”

An advanced combination of hydraulically interconnected, continuously variable semi-active dampers virtually eliminates body pitch and roll on the road, while the 6D Dynamics system also contributes to the Defender’s unprecedented comfort and refinement. On challenging terrain, the 6D Dynamics system allows for greater wheel articulation and tackles even more extreme obstacles, meaning customers can go even further and in greater comfort.

The full capabilities of the new Defender OCTA, which can automatically detect the surface it is driving on and optimize its dynamic settings accordingly, are unleashed through its enhanced driving modes. In addition to the default Comfort mode, Dynamic mode offers the ultimate performance-focused on-road experience, adjusting the vehicle’s steering, throttle and suspension settings with a simple touch of the signature logo button on the steering wheel.

A long press of the same button accesses OCTA mode, Defender’s first-ever performance-focused off-road driving mode. This has been specifically created to ensure ultimate control and driver confidence. OCTA mode also enables an Offroad Launch mode for optimal acceleration on loose surfaces. Combined with the lowest settings of the traction management systems (TracDSC or DSC off), it also applies a unique off-road ABS calibration for optimal braking performance on loose surfaces.

For more technical off-road maneuvers, the Defender’s suite of familiar Terrain Response modes remains at the driver’s fingertips, with specific Sand, Mud/Ruts, Grass/Gravel/Snow and Rock calibrations, supported by off-road driving aids such as ClearSight Ground View2, which provides a virtual view of the front wheels and surface with a display on the touchscreen.

AN EXTERIOR PLACED UNDER THE SIGN OF CONFIDENCE

Defender’s commanding presence and off-road focus give Defender OCTA a bold new attitude. It is available with 22-inch diameter wheels, the largest ever fitted to a production Defender, and Goodyear Advanced All-Terrain tires1 specifically designed for the OCTA model. This required flared wheel arches, which complement the off-road-optimized front bodywork with unique grille designs allowing for improved underhood airflow, a new rear bumper incorporating a quad-exit active exhaust system, robust underbody protection including an aluminum alloy front bumper in Graphite, and exposed front and rear tow points finished in Phosphor Bronze.

The Defender OCTA color palette includes two new exclusive premium metallic finishes: Petra Copper and Faroe Green, as well as Carpathian Grey and Charente Grey, while all Defender OCTA models feature a contrasting roof and tailgate in gloss Narvik Black. Customers can personalize their vehicle with the optional matte protection film for additional body protection in challenging environments, also adding an elegant look that highlights its distinctive silhouette and sophisticated surfaces.

The Faroe Green color is available exclusively on the Defender OCTA Edition One, as are the Chopped Carbon Fiber details. This highly distinctive finish, which includes recycled raw materials, features on the Defender bonnet lettering, side vents and bonnet vents, as well as on the front seat backs and center console trim inside.

AN ENGAGING AND IMMERSIVE INTERIOR

Inside, carefully selected details set the new Defender OCTA apart. Two ultra-durable UltrafabricsTM PU options – 30% lighter than traditional leather – are available. This knitted seat finish is standard on the Defender OCTA Edition One, in two-tone Khaki and Ebony, and has a minimalist, seamless finish.

For the Defender OCTA, the standard interior is offered in a new Semi-Aniline Burnt Sienna leather, with Kvadrat™ textile trim in Ebony. Any Defender OCTA model can also be equipped with Ultrafabrics™ PU in Light Cloud and Lunar, or Semi-Aniline leather in Ebony.

The front row of the Defender OCTA features all-new Performance seats with supportive bolsters and integrated headrests. Another new feature of the Defender is the Body and Soul Seat audio technology .

The Body and Soul Seat feature was created in collaboration with music industry experts SUBPAC and Coventry University, allowing both the driver and front passenger to feel and hear the music . Six wellness programs are also available to help passengers relax or boost their cognitive responses while traveling, depending on their preferences.

Fashion Group International (FGI) will host the 29th annual FGI Rising Star Awards ceremony on April 16, 2025, in New York City, from 11 am to 2 pm (location to be announced).

Emmy, Grammy, and NAACP Image award winning actress, performer, producer, and New York Times bestselling author Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip, The Last Black Unicorn), will host the venerable fashion non-profit organization’s red-carpet awards ceremony – joined by presenters Fern Mallis, Gary Wassner, Ken Downing, Reem Acra, Jonathan Cohen, and more to be announced. The event convenes leading designers, executives, and tastemakers, and presenters to recognize emerging talent in fashion, beauty, and related sectors – along with distinguished leaders like Robert Chavez, former Executive Chairman Hermès Americas (Retired), recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

The FGI Rising Star Awards is one of FGI’s signature fundraising events. The event’s visibility and impact reflect the global fashion organization’s commitment to nurture and support fashion professionals at every stage of their careers with vital resources, educational opportunities, and a global forum for connection. Applications opened in September of 2024 to eligible businesses in operation for two to six years. Finalists and honorees are ultimately selected by FGI member vote and juried panel.

Historically, the FGI Rising Star Awards have served as a career incubator for some of the fashion world’s most revered brands and designers, including Tory Burch, Jason Wu, Brandon Maxwell, Joseph Altuzarra, Phillip Lim, Kerby Jean-Raymond, Thom Brown, Monica Rich Kosann, Dee Ocleppo Hilfiger, Brett Heyman, Warby Parker, Cornelia Guest; Dylan Lauren of Dylan’s Candy Bar; Jennifer Fleiss and Jennifer Hyman of Rent The Runway, and Rachel Shechtman of Story.

Returning sponsor Macy’s, in its second-year partnership with FGI, will again sponsor the Future Fashion Award in Fashion Merchandising, recognizing an outstanding student in fashion merchandising enrolled in one of six partner collegiate programs. On behalf of returning sponsor Hilldun Corporation, Gary Wassner will present the Hilldun Business Innovation Award to Carly Bigi, Founder of Laws of Motion.

FGI will fete awards finalists at an annual, invitation-only pre-event. This year, for the first time, the awards pre-event will take the form of an informal fireside chat: a new format proposed by FGI Board Chairperson Alyce Panico. Ms. Panico was appointed to the role in January of 2025, succeeding 6-year former Board Chairperson and current FGI Board member and advisor James D’Adamo. 

Prior to her appointment, Ms. Panico served on the FGI Board of Directors for five years in addition to co-chairing the 2024 FGI Night of Stars gala. The fireside chat aligns with FGI’s strategic direction for 2025 and Panico’s expressed goals to continue fostering opportunities for connection and to further develop the organization’s impactful programming.

This year’s pre-party event will be hosted by APL and APL Managing Partner NJ Falk, at the luxury performance athletic and lifestyle footwear flagship store in New York City’s SoHo district. During the event, FGI Chairperson Alyce Panico will moderate a fireside chat with NJ Falk, Robert Chavez, Gary Wassner, and other special guests who, together, will discuss the topic of mentorship and paying it forward in the fashion industry.

History was made on December 20, 2019, when Air Canada took delivery of its first Canadian designed and built Airbus A220-300. A few weeks later, Air Canada revealed this game-changing aircraft to the public in a ceremony at its Montreal headquarters, allowing media and employees to have a first-hand look at an aircraft that has become a key part of the airline’s narrowbody fleet renewal.

Fin 101, bearing the registration C-GROV in honour of former Air Canada President and CEO Calin Rovinescu, who was instrumental in Air Canada’s purchase of the fleet, took off for its maiden commercial flight from Montreal to Calgary on January 16, 2020.

As we celebrate the fifth anniversary of the A220 in our fleet, Air Canada has exercised purchase options for five additional aircraft, for a total fleet of 65.

Air Canada was the first carrier in North America to operate the A220-300, heralding a new era of comfort that is unrivalled on a single-aisle aircraft in the Air Canada fleet. The airline is the only Canadian carrier to operate this aircraft. The A220 is assembled in Mirabel, Quebec, supporting the vibrant Canadian aerospace sector with more than 4,000 jobs. Since the creation of the programme in 2018, the A220 has contributed $ 5.7 billion to the GDP, 33,242 jobs and $ 3.5 billion in labour income according to a recent PwC study.

“The A220 for us is an aircraft that is very versatile and very efficient, which only adds to the pride we have to be flying an aircraft built by Canadians,” said Alexandre Lefevre, Vice President, Network Planning – North America and Scheduling at Air Canada. “The future of the A220 at Air Canada is very exciting. It’s a future of growth that will bring with it new routes and an excellent passenger experience, making it a cornerstone of Air Canada’s narrowbody fleet renewal.”

“The efficiency and economics of the A220 have enabled Air Canada to expand its network across North America with routes that were simply not commercially viable with the previous generation of aircraft,” Alex added.

One of his favourite A220 routes, is Montreal to Austin, Texas. “The versatility of the aircraft allows it to do both short or long-haul segments across North America and to some Caribbean destinations,” he said.

A hybrid occupying a critical niche between a regional and regular narrow-body jet, Air Canada’s A220 is configured with a choice of two cabins, with 12 seats in Business Class and 125 seats in Economy. It features more personal space, larger windows, full-colour LED ambient and customizable mood lighting. Onboard Air Canada’s fleet, the passenger experience is elevated with the addition of a Panasonic in-flight entertainment system at every seat, as well as satellite-based, high speed Wi-Fi access.

“The first word that comes to mind when thinking about flying the A220 is ‘easy’. It’s an aircraft that is very intuitive, with well-designed systems that are not complicated for pilots. We have access to a ton of information that is easy to see and analyze,” said Captain Ian Beauchemin, an A220 Captain and check pilot at Air Canada. “I am extremely proud to be able to fly an aircraft that was built only a few kilometres from my base in Montreal. That it was built here, with all the engineering done in Quebec and Canada, and to fly this aircraft for the country’s flag carrier, I couldn’t be happier or prouder.”

A few fun facts about the A220 at Air Canada

Fin 101 – In addition to the C-GROV registration in honour of Calin Rovinescu, his signature adorns the aircraft right below the captain’s window.

Fin 119 – This aircraft is painted in a special livery paying tribute to the airline’s history, featuring the TCA colours and logo from when the company was founded in 1937.
