Arnold & Son welcomes two new dial variations to the Perpetual Moon 38 collection.  The Swiss watchmaker revealed the two new limited-edition moon phase timepiece models at Geneva Watch Days – including a limited edition of 88 pieces in blue aventurine glass and a 28-piece limited edition in sunray brushed grey. With these new designs, Arnold & Son exhibits its mastery of color, its sense of texture, and its taste for premium materials, telling a nocturnal narrative that brings together the grey of a cliff, the iridescent white of the moon, the inky black blue of a starry sky, and the precise astronomical moon phase of the A&S1612 caliber.

From the outset, Perpetual Moon 38 was destined to become a full-fledged collection. While distinct from its larger 41.5 mm diameter Perpetual Moon cousin, the 38 mm model shares the unwavering quality, precision, and high-level finish associated with the Arnold & Son name.

Measuring 38 mm in diameter and 10.44 mm thick, the Perpetual Moon 38 Red Gold case is brought to life from a block of red gold (5N). Its bezel, four lugs, and crown are polished, shining under the cold light of the moon. The blue aventurine dial, constellated with metallic particles, blends into a celestial vault sculpted from the same glass. The “cliff grey” dial, in a warm, sunray-brushed grey, boasts an ever-shifting moiré effect under a grained matte midnight blue sky.  

These two limited editions of Perpetual Moon 38 Red Gold are home to a huge moon phase: a luminescent disc of mother-of-pearl illuminates the sky, framed by the constellations of Cassiopeia and Ursa Major.  

A 38 MM PICTURE OF PRECISION

Perpetual Moon 38 Red Gold transposes stringent watchmaking requirements of Arnold & Son into a smaller, more slender case. The Arnold & Son Swiss manufacturer has designed an entirely new caliber, the smallest in its collection, and dedicated it to Perpetual Moon 38.

At 30 mm, the A&S1612 caliber has been sized to fit the diameter of the case. The hand-wound movement continues Arnold & Son’s tradition of calibers with long power reserves, reaching up to 90 hours.  

WAXING MOON, WANING MOON

The star complication of the A&S1612 caliber is its moon phase. Perpetual Moon 38 showcases a large moon disc. The different crescents occupy the large aperture between 10 and 2 o’clock, with the form of their cut-out faithfully recreating the appearance of the moon.  

True to its tradition of precision watchmaking, Arnold & Son has given this moon phase an accuracy of 122 years. Continuously rising, it will take more than a century for this moon to lag one day behind the real one in our skies.

Arnold & Son’s collections are produced in limited series and distributed worldwide through carefully selected retail partners. 

HERITAGE

As a renowned watchmaker, John Arnold produced some of the most accurate marine chronometers of the 18th century. He won several awards from the Bureau des Longitudes, spurring him on in his research into timekeeping. He filed many patents as an inventor, including one for a compensation balance featuring a bimetallic balance spiral and another for a helical balance spring with terminal curves. Arnold also produced simplified chronometer design principles that permitted mass production of these timepieces, many of which were made available to His Majesty’s Royal Navy, making John Arnold one of its principal suppliers. One of his least known but most significant contributions was the modern definition of the term ‘chronometer’, which today refers to a high-precision timepiece driven by a movement that has passed an accuracy inspection carried out by an official neutral body.

A fine watchmaking House stands out for its mastery of the classics. Arnold & Son has based its identity on its ability to produce great watchmaking complications linked to John Arnold’s heritage and based on three principles: Astronomy, Chronometry and World Time. These complications include tourbillon, true seconds, dual time zones and moon phase. Lastly, the long-lasting power reserves pay homage to Arnold’s marine chronometers, which also benefit from impressive autonomy. OMEGA’s partnership with the crew began 30 years ago, during the 1995 America’s Cup, when it collaborated with the legendary Sir Peter Blake, then captain of Team New Zealand.

Quite literally, Armand “Mondo” Duplantis is an athlete at the top of his sport. Not only is the Swedish pole vaulter the current World and Olympic champion, but on April 20th, he broke the World Record for an 8th time in his career – setting a new height of 6.24m.

For OMEGA, this extraordinary leap is the perfect moment to introduce a new Seamaster Aqua Terra inspired by the brand ambassador. Crafted in the blue and yellow colours of the Swedish flag, it features a number of exclusive details in celebration of Mondo’s achievements in athletics.

The 41 mm timepiece is presented in stainless steel and is worn on an integrated strap made from blue rubber with neat stitching in yellow, an OMEGA logo, and polished central links that beautifully complement the polished and brushed surfaces of the case.

On the dial, OMEGA has delivered a subtle twist to the signature Aqua Terra style. While the blue surface is given a traditional opaline finish with horizontal stripes, the unique tributes to Mondo include a Seamaster name and quarter hour numbers in yellow. Most notably, the varnished central seconds hand is also in yellow and is crafted with a pole vault inspired shape, featuring Super-LumiNova on top to represent the grip of the pole.

As precision has been critical throughout Mondo’s sporting journey, the watch is further equipped with a Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre, assuring the very height of accuracy, performance, and magnetic-resistance.

Armand Duplantis has been an OMEGA ambassador since 2020. In the four years since then, he has claimed multiple World and European Championships titles, and won his first Olympic Games gold medal in Tokyo. His progressive World Records show the unrelenting commitment he has to his sport, and prove there are always more boundaries to push.

As Official Timekeeper of the Diamond League, OMEGA was at the latest meet in April, proudly measuring the 6.24m jump that Mondo accomplished in Xiamen, China.

Kross Studio Unveils Six New Timepiece Collector Sets Inspired by the Dragons of “House of the Dragon” HBO series.

Kross Studio, renowned for its innovative fusion of fantasy and haute horlogerie, proudly unveils new Collector Sets inspired by the awe-inspiring dragons of the acclaimed HBO series “House of the Dragon.” As the second season of the series premieres on June 16, these exquisite timepieces and dragon egg sculptures offer discerning collectors an unparalleled opportunity to immerse themselves in the mythical realm of Westeros. 

The six latest collector sets pay homage to Arrax, Silverwing, Moondancer, Seasmoke, Vermithor and Sunfyre, complementing and completing the dragon inspired series. Previous unique collector set editions from the Kross Studio x House of the Dragon collaboration were dedicated to Balerion (sold out), Viserion, Viserion Ice Dragon (sold out), Drogon (sold out), Rhaegal, Syrax, Caraxès (sold out), Meleys (sold out), Vaghar (sold out), and Vermax (sold out).

Each of the Collector Sets pays homage to a specific dragon from the “Game of Thrones” saga, capturing their unique essence and formidable presence. The main feature of each set is a mesmerizing central floating tourbillon watch, a masterpiece of horological engineering designed by Kross Studio’s founder Marco Tedeschi. The watch and its tourbillon, suspended beneath a sapphire crystal dome, reflects the distinct aesthetic codes of House Targaryen, from its 45mm grade 5 titanium case to its intricate movement.

Complementing the watch is a meticulously crafted dragon egg sculpture in resin and hand-painted by the renowned French workshop Leblon Delienne. Each egg, inspired by the appearance of its corresponding dragon, serves as a nest for the watch and adds an element of fantasy and intrigue to the collection.

The ultimate Targaryen-inspired timepiece

At the heart of the Game of Thrones Central Floating Tourbillon lies the innovative KS 7’005 movement, a testament to Kross Studio’s dedication to horological advancements. This movement features a world-first, manually wound floating central tourbillon, a mesmerizing complication that seems to defy gravity as it rotates within the watch. The peripheral hour display mechanism adds a touch of futuristic elegance, with hour markers positioned around the edge of the dial instead of the center. This innovative design, combined with the floating tourbillon, provides a captivating view of the intricate mechanics at play within the watch, blurring the lines between technical prowess and artistic expression.

KS 7’005 Caliber

The manual-winding patented floating central tourbillon is designed, crafted, and assembled in Kross Studio’s workshops. As a fundamental characteristic, the main functions of the movement, such as Its energy accumulation, regulation, display, and winding, are concentric and coaxial at the center of the watch. Therefore, the barrel and the regulator provide a power reserve of 120 hours with chronometric performance. This remarkable complication is a testament to the pinnacle of horological expertise, brought to life by the master artisans at Kross Studio Manufacture.

Floating in the skies

The cage of the central floating tourbillon is a visual marvel, marking a patented, world-first achievement. Like a dragon gliding across the heavens looking down from above, the floating central tourbillon’s suspension just below the sapphire crystal dome offers a breathtaking view of the inner workings of the watch beneath it. With the tourbillon and its fixed second wheel levitating above the movement and hands, the construction provides a never-before-seen perspective into the mesmerizing mechanics of the tourbillon. This innovative design feature provides the opportunity to fully admire this horological masterpiece from every angle.

Reading the time

The innovation of the KS 7’005 movement also lies in the peripheral hour display mechanism, achieved by a planetary gear system mounted on two ball bearings, freeing the tourbillon from any obstruction.

Valyrian steel

The watch’s design synthesizes key elements of the fantasy series and its renowned dragons, such as its dial, made of Damasteel®. Reminiscent of Valyrian steel, fans will recognize its striated appearance made up of multiple dark and shimmering layers. The Damascus steel used in the Dragon Central Tourbillon dial is crafted by Damasteel, the same foundry that forged the metal used in the HBO series’ swords.

“Dreams didn’t make us kings. Dragons did” – Daemon Targaryen

The ergonomic, grade 5 titanium or 18-carat pink gold watch case imitates the scales of a dragon through intricate three-dimensional engraving. Furthermore, the Targaryen House sigil, depicting a three-headed dragon breathing flames, is also hand-engraved in the center of the titanium watch case back. Each case back is uniquely identified by the name of the singular dragon that inspired the collector’s set, with only one set dedicated to a single dragon.

An inextricable, transcendent bond links the Targaryen house’s prestige and its dragons across ages, myth, and memory. As a symbol, for the Targaryens and the people of Westeros, dragons embody the ultimate power and loyalty and inspire awe and fascination. Kross Studio looked to these fearsome creatures’ origins, their eggs, to inspire the collector sets’ unique functional sculptures.

The Dragon Egg Functional Sculpture, designed by Marco Tedeschi, is produced in collaboration with the French workshop Leblon Delienne, long renowned for its incomparable expertise in crafting pop sculptures.

The design was carefully planned down to the smallest detail, inside and out. The outer shape of the eggs was created using a 3D scan of the TV show props. Each resin Dragon Egg has been painstakingly airbrushed and hand-painted to create a unique finish that is wholly individual, inspired by a single dragon.

The egg opens to serve as a nest for the Game of Thrones Central Floating Tourbillon or any timepiece of choice, which can be placed on a cushion supported by two towers inspired by the design of Dragonstone Castle, the ancestral seat of House Targaryen. The base of the stand features seven slots, one for each of the saga’s seven kingdoms.
