Four Seasons, in collaboration with Perrier, announces the launch of Four Seasons Best Sip on Tour. This tour will bring the hospitality company’s acclaimed bar concept BKK Social Club from Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, Thailand to North America for a series of guest bartending shifts at renowned establishments, including some of the top Four Seasons bars in the United States and Mexico. BKK Social Club is currently ranked as one of the best bars in the world by both World’s 50 Best Bars and Asia’s 50 Best Bars, both sponsored by Perrier.

J Craft Boats AB, was present and much noticed on the quays of the ports of Cannes and Monaco during the September 2023 boat shows. The timeless style of runabouts, also known as motorboats, is still handcrafted by this exceptional Swedish boatyard. Even the prestigious Chanel brand chose Craft for its latest campaign in the Chanel “Les Beiges” make-up series.

Since launching its first luxury day-boat in 1999, J Craft has continued to build boats on the Swedish island of Gotland. Here, in the midst of the sometimes stormy Baltic Sea, J Craft capitalizes on the island’s strong marine heritage and centuries of shipbuilding tradition. J Craft’s team of experienced craftsmen devote over 9,000 hours to the construction of each unit, and all boats undergo extensive sea trials in the challenging northern waters before delivery.

DESIGN

J Craft boats are designed to exceed their owners’ expectations, offering cutting-edge technology, environmentally friendly production and unique styling. J Craft harmoniously fuses classic style with modern power and convenience.

The result is a boat that can be used in any capacity: hunting boat, tender or well-equipped day boat. The J Craft Torpedo is a chic, high-performance boat, built entirely by hand, with over 8,000 hours of work put into each one. The small team is focused on quality, and anything less than perfect is never good enough.

At J Craft, it’s all about the detail. The feel of the leather, the weight of the switch, the action of the hinge – simple things, imperceptible to most, but which add subliminally to the pleasure of owning a Torpedo. The eco-friendly, cultivated mahogany deck is lacquered and varnished eighteen times for an incomparable finish and incredible strength and durability. As well as being beautiful, the Torpedo can withstand the harshest elements while retaining its movie-star looks.

No two J Craft Torpedos are alike. The unique, individual nature of the wood veneers alone guarantees this. It’s also true that every boat that leaves the J Craft factory in Gotland is a unique expression of an individual’s desire to stand out, to be seen.

TORPEDO 42 – N°21

J Craft, creators of the Torpedo 42, recently delivered hull n°21, “Babebi”, to its home port of Beaulieu at the end of June, and is the very first Torpedo from J Craft to feature a metallic-colored hull. Requiring over 9,000 man-hours to build, Babebi is a Torpedo “RS” equipped with two Volvo Penta IPS 650s, which will enable her to reach a top speed of 47 knots.

The interior is two-tone, with yellow brass and off-white, as well as beautiful diamond stitching. The new Torpedo comes with additional lithium batteries, enabling it to spend a whole day on the water, engines off, with music, charging, fridges, air conditioning and dryer running without the need to use the generator, making it very quiet and comfortable with no loss of comfort.

The Torpedo can reach speeds in excess of 50 mph and offers exceptional manoeuvrability. The shape of its hull, refined over the course of two dozen builds, offers excellent stability and performance in all sea states, as well as an impressive range of 280 nautical miles.

The convertible open cockpit features two sundecks, comfortably accommodating up to 10 adults for day cruises. The spacious cabin can accommodate up to 4 people in luxurious style. The helm station features a leather Nardi steering wheel, leather dashboard and rose-polished stainless steel instrument panel.

A BOAT MADE TO MEASURE

Head-turning retro styling evokes the feeling of being at one with the sea, and every J Craft yacht is an exquisite accessory to its surroundings. Handcrafted from a fiberglass hull and mahogany veneers, every curve is hand-molded, every strip is hand-finished to ensure durability and finish.

The Torpedo is an infinitely customizable vessel, from the powerplants to the on-board technology, right down to the smallest detail. The result is a chic, high-performance cruiser that’s as at home in rough waters as it is moored on the world’s most glamorous piers.

Past customers have specified unique colors and materials. Some, in collaboration with the J Craft Boats AB team, have designed their own luggage sets, individual garments, deck plans, car-matched materials and leathers, and bespoke picnic baskets. The only real limit is the customer’s imagination.

Marushka Mikulas introduces us to the world of artist Anyuta Gusakova :

Anyuta Gusakova was born in Vladivostok, on Russia’s Pacific coast, into a family of Czech, Polish and Ukrainian descent. From an early age, art became Anyuta’s means of expressing her emotions and dreams, and of staying in touch with herself. Growing up, Anyuta was surrounded by cultural objects from Japan and China.

These objects had a profound influence on her artistic perception and expression. After graduating from high school, she obtained a degree in linguistics, then, pursuing her dream of becoming a professional sculptor, she moved to Moscow to study classical art at the Stroganov Academy of Art and Design. She graduated with an MFA in monumental and decorative sculpture in 2006, and immigrated to Canada in 2008.

“I believe that life is supposed to be joyful, inspired, and filled with love. I want to help people attune their hearts to whimsy, wonder, and balance. Life is an exciting journey if you go through it with the open heart and curious eyes of your inner child”. Anyuta Gusakova.

Anyuta’s mission is to create works of art that uplift people and fill their hearts with balance and joy. After exhibiting her work this year at the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair and Castlegar Sculpturewalk, Anyuta’s Toy Bear will be part of a unique event-exhibition called Throwback, organized by the prestigious Art Rapture in Vancouver. Francesc Pujol, moderator of the debate and Director of Real Estate for Arum Group and Abama Luxury Residences, explained that the main objective is to increase the workforce by 20,000 people to cover the potential of the construction sector, and to do this: “It is essential to integrate women into the sector, not only at management level, but also on the building site, as well as young people. We need to call for a sociological change and break down prejudices to be able to solve this problem”, he stressed. Although the number of women in the construction sector is increasing in Spain, their presence remains stronger in management positions.

Holding events outdoors is another trend highlighted at the real estate forum. Very popular in Spain, this allows participants to enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery. The island’s ideal year-round climate is particularly pleasant for these festivities. Abama’s 160 hectares of grounds, with over 25,000 palm trees, are a veritable tropical garden, and a unique and unusual setting for all types of receptions. The hotel recently opened a new multifunctional open-air event space called Abama Garden. The concept is that of a hot-spring ryokan with a sculpted landscape, where you can admire the cascading rice terraces against the backdrop of Mount Yufu. Relaxation is the order of the day in this “Japanese inn” of hot springs, where the seasonal metamorphosis is perceptible through the changing appearance of the landscape.

The name Oita, where KAI Yufuin is located, derives from words meaning “great rice field” and is a region associated with rice cultivation. This hot-spring ryokan overlooks Mount Yufu and boasts one of the largest numbers of natural springs in Japan. The alternating seasons can be seen in the reflection of the clear blue sky on the water before the rice is planted, the fresh green leaves just after planting, the golden color of the spreading rice ear, and the rice straw at the end of autumn…

“The location of the hotel reminds me of a farming village, and in a way, the site resembles the original landscape of the region. The main feature of this hotel is its magnificent landscape. The sheer beauty of nature can be felt; it’s sometimes said that these rice paddies are more than a Japanese garden.” Says architect Kengo Kuma.

A harmonious blend of traditional architecture and natural landscape.

The panoramic view is located at the center of the estate. Before the rice is planted in spring, the terraces are filled with water, where the clear blue sky and surrounding landscape are reflected on the surface. After planting, the fresh green of the young plants spreads and, in summer, the cultivated rice moves with the wind, producing a refreshing tone. In autumn, the ears grow in abundance, transforming the rice fields into a golden horizon. The post-harvest rice-straw landscape is a familiar winter scene in the region.

The property’s 45 rooms are located either in the main building or in independent suites. There are two types of suite, one of which stands quietly in the heart of the rice fields. The veranda offers a natural spectacle stretching as far as the eye can see, in a calm and serene setting. The other faces the sawtooth oaks and has a private outdoor hot-spring bath. The tatami floors are made from a rare herb, shichitoi, grown on the Kunisaki peninsula, so that as soon as you enter the rooms, you can appreciate its sweet natural fragrance.

The 6 Signature KAI rooms are unique to the brand, and feature regional culture. One of the special features is the inclusion of a ceiling light inspired by firefly baskets, once used as a source of light by storing them in straw baskets. This lighting creates a singular atmosphere and an impression of softness. In addition, the region produces the largest quantity of giant bamboo in Japan, and objects made from this material are renowned for their traditional craftsmanship. Bamboo is used for headboards and sofas in rooms reminiscent of the region’s customs and traditions.

A refined culinary experience, combining local flavours and traditional techniques.

A relaxing moment can be spent at the hot springs, where you can enjoy the magnificent view of Mount Yufu, colored by seasonal flowers or autumn leaves. There are two indoor baths, the “Atsuyu”, directly from the spring, and the “Nuruyu” (lukewarm water). The outdoor bath features a relaxation area, allowing you to enjoy a soothing moment. It’s an ideal place to admire Mount Yufu, also known as “Bungo Fuji”. The springs are rich in metasilicic acid, used in cosmetics as a skin conditioner. They are also hypoallergenic and gently care for the body.

The Kaiseki dinner incorporates local culinary culture and is served in a semi-private room. The dishes draw on the bounty of mountain nature. For starters, a wild boar and shitake mushroom pâté in a monaka wafer, served with a watercress salad dressed with kabosu citrus, an agricultural product characteristic of Oita. For the special kaiseki dish, a shabu-shabu-style hot pot of thinly sliced beef and various kinds of game can be enjoyed. A sauce is prepared for each type of meat.
